Counterfeit currency is a serious issue that affects both ordinary citizens and collectors. The Reserve Bank of India incorporates advanced security features into modern banknotes to deter forgery.
Key Security Features to Check
Watermark: Hold the note up to the light to reveal a watermark of Mahatma Gandhi and the denomination numeral. Fakes often have watermarks printed on the surface visible without backlighting. Security Thread: A genuine note has a windowed security thread appearing as a continuous line when held against light, containing micro-lettering like RBI and Bharat. Latent Image: Hold the note horizontally at eye level and a hidden denomination numeral will appear in the vertical band next to the portrait. Intaglio Printing: Genuine notes have raised printing on Gandhi portrait, the RBI seal and the identification mark for the visually impaired that you can feel by running your finger over these areas.
